Welcome to this June 2018 edition of Q-notes. Our national tour is less than two months away and we've a tour to Canada to fit in before then! We hope you'll enjoy reading about some of the historic venues we'll be playing in around New Zealand in August, our upcoming concerts in Ontario, some of the inspiring youth programmes we've engaged with lately and the recent celebrations at the re-branded Nelson Centre of Musical Arts. Chronological Connections

Many of the venues on our tour have special historical significance, harking back to an earlier era in New Zealand, and as we’ve delved into the history of those buildings, we’ve discovered some chronological connections with some of the works we’re playing.

We’re winging our way to Canada next month for a series of performances in the beautiful province of Ontario, including concerts for the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society, Toronto's Summer Music in the Garden series and at the Festival of the Sound in picturesque Parry Sound.

Reaching out to the next generation of string players is something we are passionate about, and we feel privileged that over the past two months we have been able to encourage and inspire nearly 300 young string players from low income backgrounds in the Hutt Valley, South Auckland and Whangarei.

Nelson is a second home for us and we feel honoured to have taken part in two gala concerts celebrating the refurbishment, re-branding and re-opening of the Nelson School of Music – now known as the Nelson Centre of Musical Arts (NCMA).

Based in Ontario, the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society presents intimate house concerts with over 70 concerts per year.

An outdoor concert titled To Russia with Love, featuring Stravinsky’s Concertino and Beethoven’s String Quartet in F, op 59/1 (Rasumovsky), in the 19th season of Summer Music in the Garden.

Festival of the Sound
21 – 27 July 2018 | Charles W. Stockey Performance Hall
Returning to Ontario for the 39th Festival of the Sound, the NZSQ will play in several concerts from July 21 - 27, both as a quartet and as individuals in other ensembles.

17 August - 1 September 2018
Join us for a concert of groundbreaking works that have each taken chamber music in new directions. We’re delighted that Serenity Thurlow, the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Viola, will join us for our concert in Christchurch.
